Today's lunchtime workout was a 30 minute run on the treadmill. Pittsburgh has been so humid lately! Running outside leaves me totally zapped. At least the treadmill lets me catch up on magazines.
And one of today's snacks. I love the sweet crunch of carrots paired with the creamy saltiness of peanut butter. This is definitely one of my go-to snacks. Munching on carrot sticks after work keeps me out of the muffins I like to keep around. I actually eat so many of them that we stopped buying baby carrots and prep them ourselves instead.
There's something strangely relaxing about the repetitive motions of peeling and chopping. Plus, we get to save a little at the grocery store.
Also, this:
Soda is SO BAD for you. I tried to give it for six weeks (June 18 - July 30) and had a perfect record...until I went on vacation. We went to a warm, dry climate with family members that enjoy an occasional soda. I think I had about 4-5 over the week and, for what it's worth, I drank no alcohol. Since returning, I've been able to stay soda-free, with the help of seltzer and unsweetened iced tea/coffee.
Do you drink soda? Have you ever tried to give it up?

I haven't had soda in years! I don't really care to, and without any redeeming qualities it doesn't bother me to stay away from it. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous! I really enjoy it during the summer.
DeleteI can totally appreciate the treadmill during hot weather too.. I read blogs on my phone or watch TV ;). The special birthday dinner you made seriously looks amazing! As for soda... I like to drink sparkling water. Last time I went to the dentist the hygienist told me to lay off haha!
ReplyDeleteSoda is so bad for your teeth! I've been drinking a lot of sparkling water, too. Have you tried the lime seltzer from Trader Joe's? So good!
Deleteplease come be my personal vegetable chopper and peeler because I loathe it! I wish I found it relaxing! I love carrots but have never tried them with peanut butter, I will have to try it.
ReplyDeleteHa! Maybe I could be a freelance veggie prepper. Everything tastes better with peanut butter!
DeletePlus big carrots seem to taste way better than the bagged baby ones! I've never been a huge soda drinker, but ohh, I love my seltzer water!
ReplyDeleteI wondered if I was crazy, but I definitely noticed the taste difference, too! Freshly cut carrots taste sweeter and are less dried out.
DeleteExactly! I feel like the baby ones are just the carrot core, which is always the toughest/least flavorful part. And whole carrots last so much longer in the fridge than baby carrots, so if you aren't going to get to them in a day or two, it's not a problem.
DeleteAwwa! I hate giving up soda. I've done it many times, but Diet Coke is my favorite thing.
ReplyDeleteLOVE Diet Coke. It feels like such a treat! Someday, I will beat it.
DeleteI made the switch from regular to diet to sparkling water a few years ago. LOVE sparkling water.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on this switch. Trader Joe's has really great seltzers, which helps a lot. Do you still crave soda?
DeleteI love the idea of pairing carrots with peanut butter! As for soda, I used to drink a Diet Coke every day. I'm now down to once a week for a weekend treat. In it's place, I drink Nuun, tea and just plain water. LaCroix has a coconut water that is pretty delicious as well!
ReplyDeleteI love, love Diet Coke. Turning it into a weekend treat is a really good idea.
DeleteI'd never heard of Nuun, but it sounds delicious. Thanks for the advice!
